Summer Fridays Dream Lip Oil is a treatment-meets-gloss product that provides intense hydration with a non-sticky, glossy finish. The formula nourishes lips while imparting a subtle tint and cushiony shine.

Product innovation

Centers on the product's oil blend technology, which creates a stable emulsion of lightweight and occlusive oils that provides immediate slip and gradual absorption. The formula features a blend of jojoba, avocado, and sunflower seed oils combined with hyaluronic acid and vegan waxes. The product also incorporates a peptide complex that supports lip barrier function.

Various lipstick shades spread on a surface, labeled: Bare Sand, Rose Bud, Blush Dreams, etc. Pastel tones create a soft, elegant mood.

Dream Lip Oil addresses the consumer desire for lip products that provide both immediate cosmetic benefits and long-term care.

Its competitive advantage stems from its versatility as both a treatment and a cosmetic product, positioning it within both skincare and makeup categories. The product's social media-friendly packaging and texture also contributed to its rapid adoption among beauty influencers.

The product was developed as an extension of Summer Fridays' successful lip balm, with founders Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Gores identifying hybrid lip products as an underdeveloped category with growth potential. Development focused on creating a formula that would maintain its glossy appearance longer than traditional lip oils while providing substantive treatment benefits.

Trend

This product aligns with what Mintel termed the "skinification of color cosmetics," with their 2022 Lip Product report noting that treatment-oriented lip products grew by 34% while traditional lip color saw a 12% decline.

According to NPD Group data, lip oils specifically saw a 93% increase in sales during 2021-2022, making it the fastest-growing lip category. The product also capitalized on the broader "skincare-makeup hybrid" trend that Euromonitor projected would reach $1.9 billion globally by 2025.
