Amazon is allowing individual teams to decide where they accomplish their work.
Amazon will not be reopening its offices until January 2022.
When the offices open, individual teams will decide what mix of at-home and in-office work is best and precautionary safety measures will be taken for those who need to be in the office.
The pandemic caused many businesses to shift how their workforce functions. As things are looking up and businesses have the option to allow workers back into physical workplaces, the norms from before might not be what is best moving forward. The days of dressing in business attire to work from an office from 9-5 are quickly becoming a thing of the past as society becomes more informal and workers can have more flexibility. Amazon is an enormous company helping redefine what working life looks like. As they employ large sectors of the work force, other companies may take some cues from the standards they set.
As the pandemic has had an enormous toll on society, we simply cannot go back to how things were before. Among many things, COVID-19 has shown the working culture that it can adapt, and in many cases should adapt. There will be a point where things like flexible work hours and remote options are standard for knowledge workers, not added perks only a few select jobs and companies offer.
Traditional office spaces will be redesigned to accommodate those who still want a physical workplace as businesses look to get the best out of their employees.
By the facts.
